From rose water to complex women’s perfumes

Perfumes and fragrances began their journey worldwide dominance back in the 18th century, when the first rose waters and other fragrant blossom waters were produced using early distillation technologies. While initially used to mask bad body odour, perfumes soon developed into a popular cosmetic product to set a person apart from the crowd and emphasise their own personality. In the 20th century, women’s perfumes and fragrances became more and more eclectic and versatile. During this period, pioneers in perfumery like Jacques Guerlain developed exquisite compositions that are trendsetters even today. Gone are the times when luxurious fragrances were available exclusively as perfume. Heinemann offers you fragrances by Guerlain and Estée Lauder, Givenchy and Kenzo as eaux de toilette and as fresh deodorants, scented body lotions or as a light splash cologne – perfectly matching your specific personal care needs.

Enchanting variety – feminine fragrances and perfumes available from the Heinemann Shop

Today, perfumes for women are complex compositions of a variety of different notes. These compositions are no longer created using only herbal extracts; instead, synthetically manufactured essences are also used these days. And even if the top, middle and base notes of any given perfume combine very different nuances, most perfumes can be allocated to a particular fragrance family:
  • Floral fragrances are feminine and smell very intense. Almost all women’s fragrances contain individual floral notes; however, distinctive floral fragrances with rose or iris, lily of the valley or orchids have a particularly romantic effect.
  • Fruity fragrances have an especially fresh and light effect. Notes of apple, melon or cherry are often mixed with citrus notes or with light floral fragrances in order to create a lively, youthful fragrance.
  • Green fragrances can have grassy or herbal notes such as moss or tea, rosemary or green leaves. They are particularly pronounced in men’s perfumes, whereas in women’s fragrances they are used as a contrasting note to floral or fresh notes.
  • Oriental fragrances are long-lasting, intense and usually a little sweet. Often aromas like vanilla, amber or patchouli define the base note of a women’s perfume; there are, however, sensuous women’s fragrances in which the middle note is distinctively oriental.

Citrus fragrances of lemon and bergamot orange as well as woody notes in the top note enhance women’s perfumes and make them a sensuous experience.
