Bollinger, La Grande Année, brut, white, 0.75L
In the authentic house-style of Bollinger’s prestige champagne, we know that its best qualities are only realised when the harvest reaches a perfect balance: then we know we will have a Bollinger’s of truly exceptional vintage. 2004 was quite a delicate year in Champagne, with a relatively dry winter and spring but a cold, wet end to the summer. However, the grapes were picked during a fine Indian summer, which meant they were in an excellent state of health.

To the eye: A delightful blush and aged gold colours that are a sign of maturity and of Bollinger’s winemaking skills. To the nose: Its fine aromas are a testimony to the barrels it has been aged in: tones of toasted bread and brandied fruit dancing with notes of exotic spices, rhubarb and stone fruit. To the palate: Powerful yet soft bubbles; remarkable structure and length.
